Take Care of Hair from Harmful Colours in Holi

Holi is one of the most popular festivals of India, which is known for its verve, liveliness and of course its vibrant colours. Holi is all about vibrant colours, which makes it so popular amongst everyone in India or across the globe. The main custom of Holi is to use different types of colour powders or coloured water on your friends and family. Therefore, it is must to take care of your hair from harmful colours amidst limitless fun and enjoyment.

Below are some tips that you can follow to save your beautiful tresses from harmful colours before and after playing Holi:

Before Holi

1. Massaging your Hair

Massaging your Hair

To save your hair from harmful chemicals, you need to massage your hair with a good oil at least an hour or so before heading out to play with your friends and family. You can also massage your hair at night before Holi in order to give your scalp a good nourishment to fight against colours. You can use almond, coconut or any type of oil for massaging your hair.

2. Tying your Hair

Tying your Hair

It is important to tie your hair in a bun, ponytail or a braid, as it will prevent your hair from getting exposed to damage or breakage. It will also help in securing your hair from getting exposed to harmful chemicals present in colours used for playing Holi.

3. Covering Your Hair with Scarf or Bandana

For extra protection against harmful chemical colours, you can also cover your hair with a bandana or scarf. It will keep your scalp safe from harmful chemicals.

After Holi

1. Shampooing your Hair

After the Holi party, first you need to wash your hair with lukewarm water and keep doing so till the water runs clean. After this, use a good nourishing shampoo and massage your scalp with it properly and wash your hair, then use a conditioner to give your tresses a shiny look.

2 Massaging your Hair Again

After washing your hair, let it dry. At night, you need to give yourself a good oil massage in order to let the nutrients and moisture set back again which got lost while playing Holi. You can also do hair spa at home by just wrapping your hair in a hot water towel for around 15-20 minutes.

3. Applying Natural Hair Pack

After Holi is over, you need to take care of your hair and stop it from getting damaged. For keeping your long strands secure, you need to apply natural masks on your scalp and hair. You can apply lemon juice, curd or egg in your scalp and this will refresh and soften your hair again. You can also try herbal packs like heena paste, shikakhai or amla paste.

Don't worry, just go out and play your heart out with your friends and family, because it's HOLI! After that, use these amazing tips to get back your beautiful tresses back in shape and texture.

How Often Do You Really Need to Shampoo?

How Often Do You Really Need to Shampoo?

How often do you really need to shampoo your hair? If you have oily hair, your answer to this question would be every single day. A person with normal sense about good hygiene would not be able to sit still with grimy and greasy hair. Grimy hair smells bad and is dirty too. In addition, your hair starts feeling itchy if not washed for many days, and the feeling is totally uncomfortable altogether. However, if you don't know that you expose your hair and scalp to serious damage, if you shampoo your hair every day. Yes, you read it right! According to many dermatologists and skin care experts, shampooing your hair every day eventually strips your hair and scalp of its protective sebum. Moreover, sebum is the natural oil that our body produces in order to keep your skin and hair moisturized. Shampooing every day results to dandruff and scalp irritation as your scalp starts producing more oil in order to compensate for the loss.

Washing and Shampooing Your Hair Properly

The most important thing when it comes to hair care is properly washing and shampooing them. Cleaning your hair helps in removing the dirt and other impurities from your scalp. In addition, properly washing your hair helps in maintaining your beautiful tresses. However, washing them daily may lead to damage and breakage too. Washing your hair on daily basis leads to dry scalp, which eventually takes away all the natural oils from your hair and making them look more dull, frizzy, and brittle. It is best advised to wash your hair thrice a week with natural shampoos or any good herbal shampoos available in the market. Moreover, it's important to choose a shampoo according to your hair and what works best for you.

Finding the Right Shampoo for Your Hair

There are many different brands and types of shampoos available across the world for Asian hair, from a wide array of cheaper and common brands that you can purchase from any local market or pharmacy stores, to branded and expensive shampoo brands like L'Oreal and Vella that can only be bought from salons and hi-end stores. Therefore, how to choose one for yourself?

1. Hair Type

Firstly, you need to understand your hair type. It is easier to understand what type of shampoo your hair will need, if you have coloured or rebounded your hair recently. If you had your hair coloured recently, then you will need a shampoo that will protect your hair colour and not strip it from your hair.

2. High-moisturizing shampoos

Good shampoos for coloured hair are enriched with higher moisturizing content because your hair tends to become dry after a colouring. If you hair are dry, oily, or thin, then you need to use different hair types of shampoos.

Therefore, if you frequently shampoo your hair, it damages your hair because of the harsh chemicals found in the typical commercial shampoos. You should use herbal shampoos and natural remedies to wash your hair to keep them silky and strong.

How to Tame Frizzy Hair

Foolproof measures to tame mulish frizzy hair

Bushy-frizzy hair often becomes stubborn and has the excruciating capacity to ruin just about any hairstyle. In fact, many people with naturally frizzy hair often limit themselves to the quintessentially boring bun to keep the frizz in place. But limiting yourself to a particular hairdo or haircut is not the solution. Find out how frizzy hair can be tamed easily, at home.

Fizzy hair

The basics

i) when washing hair, never squeeze to get the water out as it will hurt the roots but wrap a towel (or T-shirt as it soaks more water faster) around hair and let it dry. Air-drying often triggers frizzing in hair (humidity, colder climate are some factors) so keeping hair tied in towel when drying helps in keeping hair straight from the beginning.

ii) Detangle wet hair gently through fingers and avoid harsh coming/brushing of hair.

iii) Apply a conditioner (protein rich) or use a mousse to set the hair. When buying conditioning and other hair products, remember to buy the ones manufactured specifically for frizzy hair. Avoid spending money in anything that has too many chemical names (that you can't even pronounce) in the ingredients list.

Taking the taming process a notch up

a) Frizzy hair is essentially dry which means gentle hydration has the ability to do wonders. Use nourishing essential oils like Jojoba Oil, Ylang Ylang Essential oil, Rosemary Essential oil, Cypress oil, Patchouli Oil, etc to massage the scalp, roots and hair tips. Either use it overnight or apply at least 2 hours prior to shampooing.

b) Besides proper hydration, nourishing through soft and rich butters also helps in softening the curls. Permed and frizzy hair responds well to the rich nourishment provided by Shea butter which has the potent ability to repair dry, damaged, and chemically treated and frizzy hair. Avocado butter with coconut and Hibiscus extracts (natural) can also be used.

Caring for Frizzy hair when going out/travelling/getting a hairdo done

Just because you have frizzy hair doesn't mean that you can't party. Beautiful hairdos can be spotted with frizzy hair too as all you need is to prepare your hair to balance the damage. The most important aspect of getting any hairdo is making sure that the hair is free of split ends or dry tips (get hair trimmed if needed) and then applying good quality mousse generously on the hair. Once all protection has been provided to hair to lower the damage, go for the hairdo but try refraining from excessive processing and heating.

What not to do when you have frizzy hair?

Frizzy hair is not a type but rather a hair issue that usually occurs when hair becomes brittle, dry, damaged. Those with curly, permed hair and those living in cold climate or humid climate are prone to developing frizz. Some simple regular habits will help in taming the issues like using hair sun protection, deep conditional and nourishment through pure essential oils and using gentle hair cleansers.

Indulge in good hair care and pay attention to the nourishment needs of your hair and you won't have to worry about frizz ever again.
